Powder Coating is a dry coating that is applied using electrostatic spray deposition to a usually metal product. Compressed air is used to push the powder through a ‘gun’ where the powder is positively charged and then sprayed out onto a negatively grounded part; creating a closed electrical-circuit, where the powder conducts/attracts to the part. To cure the powder coat: the fully coated part is placed in the oven where it is baked at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes, this causes the powder to go through an amorphous change, flowing the powder into a smooth gorgeous finish. The curing process increases durability, by increasing the binding area, through chemical heat changes to the long molecular chain, thus producing a better concentration of increased cross-link density to the part; better binding the powder to the part. Once cured, the powder produces a high quality appearance with great durability for the part.
